Trinity Church Decorations, 1876-77

Saint-Gaudens was one of several assistants brought in by John La Farge to complete the mural paintings for Trinity Church, Boston. La Farge (1835-1910) was a landscape and figure painter, decorator, glass painter, and writer. La Farge received the commission with the architect Henry Hobson Richardson for the interior fresco decorations of the church. Saint-Gaudens began work under La Farge's direction in 1876 and remained with him until 1877, when the church was consecrated. Saint-Gaudens is credited with painting the green-robed figure of Saint Paul and the seated figure of Saint James. Among the other assistants involved with the project were Francis Lathrop, Francis D. Millet, and George Maynard.
