A Masque of 'Ours,' The Gods and the Golden Bowl

At 6:00 p.m. on June 22, 1905, "A Masque of 'Ours,' The Gods and the Golden Bowl" was performed on the grounds of Aspet. Honoring the twentieth anniversary of Augustus and Augusta Saint-Gaudens' arrival in Cornish, the masque was scheduled for the summer solstice on June 20, but had been postponed due to rain. Although performed on their estate, neither the sculptor nor his wife was familiar with the plot until the masque unfolded. The Saint-Gaudens were highly moved by this event, which helped revive Augustus' spirits after his health had begun to fade from cancer.
